The solution is to get rid of them - and plant native wildflowers instead.

If you own the land, you can simply dig them up and replant them in your
garden. You can also get rid of them with a scythe, a flamethrower, or
herbicide. (NB We do not recommend herbicide!)

If you don't own the land you'll need the landowner's permission to do any of
the above...

Then if you feel you have to plant something,
why not plant wild daffodils instead?

Novel ways of getting rid of daffodils include strange inhaling (left) and kicking (right).
Neither is recommended.  Left image courtesy of

Apart from digging them up yourself, here are 5 other things you can do
to save the countryside from the rise of the big yellow monsters...

      1. Talk to whoever owns the land and persuade them to dig them up.
      2. If the Council owns the land, ask them to dig them up.  Remind them of
'PPS9' - the Government's Planning Policy on nature conservation*
      3. Ask your local Councillors to take action - make the countryside green
not yellow!
      4. Ask your candidates in the General Election what they will do to
protect nature in the countryside - and where they stand on Daffodils**.
      5. Email us your photos of daffodils planted in the wrong place, with
details of the location (village, postcode, GPS, whatever) and we'll put
them on our map page.  Or just send us
an email of support!

*PPS9
aims: "to conserve, enhance and restore the diversity of England’s wildlife
and geology by sustaining, and where possible improving, the quality and extent
of natural habitat ... and the populations of naturally occurring species which they
support." Removing cultivated Daffodils supports this policy.
Read the policy for yourself here

**Thanks to Radio 4's 'You & Yours', we now have feedback from the
3 main UK-wide political parties:

The Lib Dems Press Office said: "We don't have a policy on daffodils.  There's
never been a motion before conference on it."
The Conservative Press Office said: "There's no policy as far as we are aware,
and we don't think it would be top of the campaign agenda."
The Labour Press Office said: "We'll look into it and get back to you."

So now you know the scale of our challenge!

If you have photos of daffodils planted in the wrong place, please email them to us with details of
the location, and we'll put them on our map page
